Beauty Banks Update

FionaYou may have read a post I wrote earlier this year about Beauty Banks – a joint venture from beauty stalwart Sali Hughes and PR guru Jo Joiner.

Following a recent report by In Kind Direct that found that 37% of the nation have had to go without hygiene or grooming essentials due to lack of funds, they set up a network of donations and deliveries of toiletries, cosmetics, sanitary items and basic hygiene provisions most of us take for granted.

I’m really pleased to update that the network has now grown and this support is being offered all over the UK. In Manchester specifically, they have partnered with Superdrug to set up collection points in their local stores. You can donate toiletries and personal care items from the Beauty Banks wish list which includes deodorant, shampoo, body wash, soap, wipes, shaving foam, razors, toothpaste and sanitary items.

Even better, all items donated are given to three Manchester food banks so by getting involved, you are helping your community.

We at Manchester Beauty Club have been working with one of the beneficiaries, Emmeline’s Pantry  for the the last 3 years donating samples and any unwanted toiletries or beauty items and we are so pleased that they have been selected to be part of this initiative.

Karen Wilson, Service Co-ordinator at Emmeline’s Pantry said: “Unfortunately we are seeing the need for our services growing rapidly. Last year we had around 30 service users over a month and now we are averaging at 30 users per day. This means we are relying even more heavily on donations and volunteer support so the Beauty Banks help is vital, now more than ever.”

In my previous post I encouraged people to be ‘hands on’ with charity work but I appreciate time is limited and not everyone has the luxury of being able to do that, so this is a great way to get involved and really make an impact. You can even use the above wish list link to donate items online.

So, when you are next in town, or maybe if you have a big Christmas shopping day planned, why not call in at Superdrug Piccadilly, Arndale or Oxford Road stores and drop some bits in the ‘Beauty Spot’ branded donation box – you will be making a big difference to someone’s life.
