Summer Trends & Work Wear

FionaIt’s June. It’s hot. It’s officially BRITISH SUMMERTIME!!

But calm yourselves, because with the high temperatures comes a whole new wave of confusion and stress for many (including me) of ‘what the hell do I wear for work?’

I struggle enough dressing casually in the heat; it either looks like I’m headed to the beach or working as club rep with legs and boobs out – I just have no in between. But, work wear is the worst. My workplace is pretty laid-back so I’ve found it easier this year, but previous jobs meant dressing more formally and between the heat of the car/tube/bus, then the air-con of an office (if you’re lucky) and balancing style with work-appropriateness, it’s just a minefield.

So, I’ve done the hard work for you and searched high and low for the key pieces that tick all the trends for Summer 2018, so get ready to shop!

The biggest colour trend for Summer 2018 is pastels – especially lavender – but if you are a bit scared of going head to toe in them, why not try and add some colour with your accessories? This Lilac Oversized Tote is £27 from Accessorize and will fit your laptop, lunchbox and lippy in, oh and it’s also available in sky blue (cue heart eyes).

The other colours on the catwalk were tomato red as well as more subdued chocolate brown and military green. The latter is perfect if your workplace is quite formal as you can opt for more muted tones like this Khaki Shirt Dress from Dorothy Perkins for £32. But, if want to make a statement, try this Tomato Chiffon Pleated Skirt at £89 from Mint Velvet. Midi skirts and pleats are all over the place this summer so if this is too bold for you, try a pastel option.

Florals are inevitable come summer and these Palazzo Trousers from George at Asda tick two trend boxes by using them in a bold, bright print at a bargain price of £12.50.

Sticking with brights – dubbed as ‘millennial pink’ this colour is here to stay so keep it up  to date by clashing the pink with red. A really easy way to do this is to play with the layered dress trend and pop a plain red tee underneath a strappy dress like this Pink Shift Dress from Pretty Little Thing for £5.

Next up is white tailoring and this Striped Linen Jacket at £25 from Tu at Sainsburys is a great buy. Light enough to keep you warm when the air con is on high and obviously pinstripes = smart office wear so it’s a no-brainer!

Chiffon and sheer materials are hot for Summer 2018 and why? Because they’re stylish and practical as they will keep you cool, not crease and will still look classy. This White Sheer Chiffon Shirt is £12.99 from New Look and create a simple look when teamed with some tailored jeans – just remember to invest in some good skin coloured underwear!

Office-friendly shoes can be the undoing of many in Summer (no, you can’t wear your flip flops and your wedges are probably not too practical) so I’ve found two options that should work for most. These 70s style Wooden Heeled Sandals from Office are £52 and literally go with everything. If you’re on your feet a lot, try these White Studded Flats, £70, Dune with subtle studded embellishment for comfort and style.

I hope you like my picks and let me know what you’ve found yourself!
